William is a 1998 graduate of the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, Indiana USA where he studied under a rich faculty including Richard Emery Nickolson, a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art who was a proponent of the legacy of artist-teacher Joseph Albers. William embraced this methodology which emphasized search and research with the practical experience of vision and design.

Drawing upon his memory of growing up in Youngstown, Ohio in the American industrial heartland, he attempts to evoke the mood and stark energy of the urban and industrial landscape. These are not necessarily depictions of specific places, but rather metaphorical references.

Shifting between realism and abstraction, his work combines elements of both, often drawing upon memory and not relying upon literal descriptions. He often compares his work to jazz music, which informs his attempt to strike a balance between chaos and structure hoping to find a reconciled elegance.

In addition to the Bonfoey Gallery, William is also loosely affiliated with the Kenneth Paul Lesko Gallery, also in Cleveland.
