I have been working as a professional artist for over 30 years, specializing in oil painting and mixed media. My work has been featured in galleries in Cleveland and Indianpolis and included in several private collections.
I am originally from Youngstown, Ohio but am currently based in Borås, Sweden.
I am represented by the Bonfoey Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio.

I feel my work has as much to do with worldly experience as anything related to inner reflection. Through the years I have been beholden to the esoteric as well as the banal. I have been interested in history, literature, music, and science as much as anything that is a discussion about art.
All these experiences have found their way into my painting.
Everything that I know about life seems to have a metaphor in painting. Through my abstract works, I try to develop a visual language that shows a deeper form of understanding. One that has no need for literal descriptions. The work itself is the subject.

I begin by laying down washes of color and work into the wet paint with improvised linear gestures using sticks of compressed charcoal.
The design and composition have no preconceived idea except for maybe a feeling or mood that I approach the painting with. I often go back and forth between the oil and charcoal, sometimes rubbing out what is there and changing directions.
The finished piece must hold together in some sort of cohesive structure although it contains many ad hoc moments and individualistic pockets energy.
